Artist Statement
Art has always been my compass; it provides an exit at times of misdirection through means of catharsis; as a result, I often create things that hide a deeper meaning. Making art motivates me because I find the constructive process therapeutic. It creates a mental escape from daily stressors by allowing me to entertain my quest for restitution and purpose.
My Sculptures are often gestural or figurative with architectural bases. The overall design of my work usually consists of multiple components that fit together to convey a complete idea. The base forms a relationship in my body of work that often represents the importance of a solid foundation within all aspects of life. This collection symbolizes our ability to build up from our imperfect foundations but also displays our inability to escape confinement!
When a traumatic experience binds us, we exhibit different responses because of our distortions. To evolve mentally we must remove the fear and limitations that have been placed on us. I am obsessed with the process of positive transformation within myself but also within the world and this collection is my contribution to the cause.
